I just finished reading Small Gods, by Terry Pratchett. It took a while to really get into it. The story starts off interesting enough, but does become a bit tedious due to the predictable plot. As usual, the humour carries you through. Spoilers – at the end, I realized just before Om attempted to get the attention of the eagle that he would get it to carry him to his destination, and also realized pages before it was revealed that the eagle would drop him on Vorbis’s head. It was just as satisfying, or perhaps more so, seeing it coming. The wrapup of this novel was excellent, with Lu Tze’s return to the monastery where it’s revealed that he totally changed the course of history, and especially getting to see Brutha’s long life come to an end. His kindness to guide Vorbis again in the afterlife really hits you in the emotions.
