I attempted to read The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka. I had never heard of the book, I just figured I’d look into Kafka after reading Kafka on the Shore.
Going in blind, I had assumed the initial shock of awaking as a bug would quickly give way to an interesting story. But not very far in, it seemed obvious it would just be “I’m a bug, I hope I don’t get fired” on repeat. “Oh no my family’s expectations won’t be met” on repeat.
So Gregor Samsa is a spineless insect and everyone around him sucks, I fucking get it. There are no deep complexities to examine here.
With his namesake being the trashest writer I’ve encountered in years, the War on Kafka continues.
